Statutory holidays and business days
A business day in Canada is a weekday that isn't a statutory holiday — a "stat" as most people call it. On a stat, banks, government offices, and many businesses close, and pay rules change for those who do work. The common reason to check is practical: an Interac or bank transfer that only settles on working days, a shipping window, or a deadline measured in business days.
The nationwide stats most of the country shares are New Year's Day, Good Friday, Canada Day (1 July), Labour Day, and Christmas Day. Several others — Victoria Day, Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October, and Boxing Day — are observed federally and in most provinces. This checker uses the national set as its baseline.
Federal vs. provincial holidays
Canada has no single national holiday list — most holidays are set province by province. Family Day exists in Ontario, Alberta, BC and others but not everywhere; Quebec observes St-Jean-Baptiste Day on 24 June; the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (30 September) is a federal and public-service holiday but not a statutory day off in every province. If your calendar depends on a provincial holiday, treat this page as the national baseline and add your province's days.

Frequently asked questions
Is today a statutory holiday in Canada?
The checker above gives an instant yes or no for today or any date, using Canada's nationwide statutory holidays. A weekday that isn't a stat is a business day.
Are provincial holidays included?
This page uses national statutory holidays. Provincial days like Family Day, St-Jean-Baptiste (Quebec), or Civic Holiday vary by province and aren't all included — add your province's holidays on top of the national baseline shown here.
Is Boxing Day a holiday across Canada?
Boxing Day (26 December) is a statutory holiday federally and in Ontario, but not a paid statutory day in every province. Because it's widely observed, it appears in the national calendar this tool uses.
Do Canadian banks close on statutory holidays?
Yes. The Bank of Canada and retail banks close on national stats, so wires, EFTs, and cheque clearing pause and resume the next business day — often the reason a transfer takes an extra day around a holiday.
How many business days are in a Canadian month?
Usually 20 to 22, depending on weekends and any statutory holidays that land on weekdays. The checker shows the exact count for any month you pick.
