A business day in Ukraine is a weekday that isn't a public holiday (святковий або неробочий день). On these days banks, government offices, and most businesses close. People check for the usual practical reasons — a bank transfer that only settles on working days, a delivery window, or a deadline counted in working days (робочі дні).
Ukraine's public holidays include New Year's Day, Christmas on 25 December, International Women's Day (8 March), Easter, Labour Day (1 May), the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism (8 May), Constitution Day (28 June), Statehood Day (15 July), Independence Day (24 August), and Defenders of Ukraine Day (1 October). Easter follows the church calendar, so it moves each year.
Recent calendar reforms
Ukraine's holiday calendar changed significantly in 2023. Christmas moved from 7 January to 25 December to align with the Western (Revised Julian) church calendar, and Victory Day shifted from 9 May to the 8 May Day of Remembrance and Victory, matching Europe. Statehood Day on 15 July was also added. This checker uses the current, reformed calendar. Note that during martial law, working-day and holiday arrangements can be adjusted by the authorities, so local rules may override the standard calendar in practice.
