Public holidays and business days
A business day in Poland is a weekday that isn't a statutory public holiday (dzień ustawowo wolny od pracy). On these days banks, offices, and most shops close, and the majority of the country doesn't work. The everyday reason to check is practical — a bank transfer that only settles on working days, a delivery estimate, or a deadline counted in business days (dni robocze).
Poland observes New Year's Day, Epiphany (6 January), Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, Labour Day (1 May), Constitution Day (3 May), Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Assumption of Mary (15 August), All Saints' Day (1 November), Independence Day (11 November), and Christmas on 24, 25, and 26 December. Several dates are tied to the Catholic calendar, so Easter, Pentecost, and Corpus Christi move each year.
A newly added holiday and the "długi weekend"
From 2025, Christmas Eve (24 December) became a statutory public holiday in Poland, so the country now has a run of days off around Christmas — this checker includes it. Poland doesn't shift a holiday itself to a fixed weekday the way the UK or New Zealand do, but a Saturday holiday isn't simply lost either: under Article 130 §2 of the Labour Code (Kodeks pracy), confirmed by the Constitutional Tribunal's ruling of 2 October 2012 (K 27/11), an employer must reduce an employee's required working hours by a day within the settlement period — in effect, a day off owed elsewhere on the calendar, at the employer's discretion rather than a fixed nationwide date. A holiday falling on a Sunday gets no such compensation, since Sunday is already a non-working day for most employees. A public holiday landing on a Tuesday or Thursday often creates a długi weekend (long weekend) as people take the bridging day off. Unlike some countries, there's no nationwide regional variation — the public holidays are the same across all of Poland.

Frequently asked questions
Is today a public holiday in Poland?
The checker above gives an instant yes or no for today or any date, using Poland's statutory public holidays. A weekday that isn't a public holiday is a business day.
Is Christmas Eve a holiday in Poland?
Yes — from 2025, 24 December (Wigilia) is a statutory public holiday in Poland, alongside 25 and 26 December. This checker includes it, so the run of days off around Christmas is reflected.
Does Poland move holidays that fall on a weekend?
Not to a fixed date, but it depends which weekend day. A holiday on a Saturday triggers a compensatory day off owed to the employee within the settlement period (Labour Code Art. 130 §2) — the employer picks the actual day, so there's no single substitute date to display. A holiday on a Sunday gets no compensation. This tool lists only the statutory holiday dates themselves.
Are Poland's public holidays the same everywhere?
Yes. Unlike countries with state or provincial holidays, Poland's public holidays are set nationally and apply across the whole country, so there's no regional variation to account for.
How many business days are in a Polish month?
Usually 19 to 22, depending on weekends and holidays — months with several Catholic holidays, like May, can have noticeably fewer. The checker shows the exact count for any month.
